Current Gallery: cast net ( piece)
DAVID L. SIMMONS is a professional artist living on the Alabama Gulf Coast and since 1976 has won over 250 awards at juried exhibitions. Simmons has in the past been represented by several galleries and has even owned his own retail gallery for three years. Tiring of the greedy games and outrageous commissions of some gallery owners and artist representatives, Simmons is now solely self-represented and is in the fortunate position to no longer need art sales for income. Of the many things I've done over my lifetime, one of them is being a professional artist. The art has been on the back burner for many years now, but here is a way to see the "old" in a "new" way. The art represented here is mostly mixed-media drawings and mixoglyphs, but may include serigraphs, woodcuts, and paintings. Mixoglyphs is a term coined by Simmons to refer to the unique art form he invented consisting of cast paper (3-dimensional), acrylic paint, pumice, colored-pencil, and sometimes metallic-leaf, gold-leaf, and lacquer.
